Why “Vaaad”?
The name Vaaad comes from the Hindi root for speech and conversation. We didn't choose it to be another tech buzzword; we chose it because speech is the core of human connection. Right now, AI voice tech is making that connection feel broken, expensive, and robotic. We're here to fix that.
The “Expensive” Realization
We — Madhav Agrawal and Vaibhav Khandelwal — are indie developers. Like many of you, we were excited about the potential of AI voice agents and started building with the industry giants: Retell, Vapi, and others.
The tech was cool, but the math didn't add up. Between high per-minute costs and hidden “platform fees,” we realized that building a scalable business on top of those tools was nearly impossible for anyone without a massive VC check. We didn't want to build a product where we had to “tax” our users just to survive.
The Latency Breaking Point
It wasn't just the money; it was the performance. In a real conversation, a 5 to 7-second delay isn't a “glitch” — it's a dealbreaker. It makes the AI sound robotic and causes the person on the other end to hang up.
We took to Reddit and found thousands of other developers saying the same thing: the market leaders charge a fortune and deliver high-latency experiences. That's when we decided to stop relying on overpriced wrappers and build our own infrastructure from the ground up.
Indie Developers vs VC Boards
We are not a corporate entity, and we aren't funded by investors. This is a crucial detail. It means we don't have a board of directors breathing down our necks demanding a $10 profit on every single user.
By owning our tech stack, we've brought latency down to a consistent 1 – 1.5 seconds. We offer a flat, honest rate of ₹4 per minute because our goal is to help people build, not to squeeze every penny out of a call.
